Drifta 16's Scorpions outplay Jets

Great teamwork and performance by Drifta dominated the first half and proved too strong for the Cundletown Jets on Saturday June 1 at the Jets field.

Cody Howard's powerful strike was unable to be saved by the Jets' keeper, while a great corner cross from Beau Blanch provided a prefect opportunity for Kayden Schumann to take their keeper by surprise with a brilliant header into goals.

A great through ball from Aiden Coombes to Kayden Schumann had him hitting the net yet again. Moments before the half time whistle, Aiden Coombes made a solo run down the sideline, shooting diagonally from outside the box, with their keeper unable to get a touch to it. Jackson Scanlons never give up attitude in defence, along with Tristyn Beard and Isaac McClure kept Drifta with a clean sheet. Drifta came home with a comfortable 4-0 win, retaining their 3rd place on the ladder.

Drifta's next game is at home against competition leaders Tuncurry Black at 10.40am Saturday June 15.

Gloucester Soldiers defeated by Warriors

Wingham Warriors fast-paced wingers started out strong in attack against the Gloucester Men's Soldiers Club soccer team on Saturday June 1 at the Warriors field.

Goalkeeper Daniel Hughes had an outstanding game as he faced plenty of action from their attackers throughout the game, while the game remained scoreless for the first 25 minutes. Frank Ostlund and Owen Tomlinson had a few breakaways, only to have Winghams defence shut them down.

During the second half, defender Andrew Hughes chased down their attacker and gave a great tackle on the edge of the box, while newcomer Baily Ballantine placed Gloucester on the scoreboard, however Wingham proved too strong on the day with a comfortable 6-1 outcome.

Men's have a break over the long weekend, so their next game is at Tinonee against the Tinonee Eagles kicking off at 3pm on Saturday June 15.
