"It's the biggest poultry show we've ever had in Taree, to my knowledge," Peter Tisdell said, after the Taree Wingham Poultry Club Annual Show at Taree Showground on Sunday, June 9.

"As far as we know, it was the biggest egg show in Australia. We've never been to an egg show with more exhibits than that!" he said.
It was the first time the annual poultry show had included an egg show, with the egg table laden with 202 entries - 103 egg plate exhibits (where eggs are cracked open onto a plate and the quality judged), 75 decorated eggs, and 24 coloured egg pictures.
Peter's daughter, Katie, judged the egg show with help from her father.
"It was a great day for Katie judging - it was a great experience", Peter said.

Katie has been receiving coaching and help from the presidents of the Poultry Club of Great Britain and the British egg club. It was at their suggestion that the Taree show was extended to include eggs, with other community groups and stock feed sellers attending to attract families.
"It was a really great family day. The Lions Club - it was amazing. That little train did not stop going from 8.30 to 1pm. The kids were everywhere!," Peter said.
"There were lots of people we've never seen before who've never been to a poultry show. Loads of families. The kids had such a wonderful day."
The Poultry Club's aim with this show was to entice backyard chook owners to come and learn all about poultry husbandry from the experts. And their aim was wildly exceeded.
"The great thing about it is that we attracted a whole lot of new people, and particularly families who are just desperate for information on what they needed to do look after poultry or where they had problem," Peter said.
"There were so many people, and young kids, asking us questions, and asking how do we join the poultry club. They can now see that there's a wealth of knowledge here and they've got somewhere to turn."
