Gloucester Panthers Men's hockey team started into the second round of the Manning Valley hockey competition with great success by defeating Taree Sharks.

Quick off the mark in the first quarter on Saturday (June 15), a great assist from Harrison Moore saw Warren Beggs score the first goal for the Panthers.

Shortly after, the Sharks goalie was drawn to the outer rim of the D, giving Warren a chance to add another goal to the score line with a solid shot into the net.

A loose ball five minutes later and some confusion in the shooting circle allowed Dave Keen to convert for the team's third goal.

Strong play by the team defensively kept the Taree Sharks team away from Gloucester's goal despite some concerted efforts by some of the younger, faster players. Bruce Snape, Andrew Germon, Vic Tonks and Phil Moore kept them at bay.

There was a lot of room afforded the team through the midfield, giving Paul Rosenbaum, Trevor Bolton, Dave Keen and Callum Howard plenty of room to set up some plays with the attacking line.

During the second half, despite a resurgence in effort from the Sharks, the Panthers were still able to keep a steady command of the play.

Some game play was lacking and the team's passing game suffered a little toward the end but it didn't stop a final goal from Phil Moore, who moved up into the forward line during the last quarter of play.

A short corner was awarded with a couple of minutes remaining and a pass off from Bruce Snape around the defence allowed him plenty of time for a solid shot to the back of the goal. The final score, 4-0.

With one loss, one draw and the remaining games a win, the Gloucester Panthers are starting to take a commanding position on the leader board this season.
