Not only does it mark the start of the month-long exhibition of all entered works in the Gloucester Gallery, but it's when the winners are announced.
The competition is open to photographers of all ages covering a wide range of subject matter from the Gloucester region or beyond. Winners of the $1500 prize pool will be announced at the opening on Friday, July 19 at the Gloucester Gallery from 7pm. Everyone is welcome to attend to support the region's talented photographers and hear what the judge has to say about the quality of work presented.
In a Pix tradition of having the same judge for two consecutive competitions, last year's judge, Stephen Barry will be back on deck.
Once all the photographs are hung in the gallery, Stephen will be taken through each section, where he'll judge which ones he deems the best. However, he has no idea who has produced the work, as these details aren't reveal until the official opening.
One of the unique things about this small town photography competition is that every piece of work that has been entered into the competition is displayed in the Gloucester Gallery until Sunday, August 11. So even the photographs that aren't awarded prizes are still available for the public to enjoy. There is even a viewer choice prize available that is determined by the votes cast by visitors to the gallery.
2019 categories are: Junior section (under 18 years) open genre; Senior section which includes; Faces I have Met, The Lie of the Land (must be of the Gloucester area), The Natural Environment, Man Made, Not your Normal photo and Absence of Colour.
