The Soldiers Club travelled to Pacific Palms with a skeleton crew, starting the game with ten players for the first 20 minutes as the men worked hard against a very strong Palms side.
Daniel Hughes came out to stop an attacking run, lucky not to receive a red card after hand balling outside the box. Finally some fresh legs arrived with four of the Drifta 16s filling in after their game. Even with fresh legs they went to half time 6-0 down.
In the second half, the Soldiers Club started playing it around to their feet as Beau Boyd slipped into the goal keeper position and brought the crowd to their feet with an excellent diving save. Lukas Dellsperger worked tirelessly throughout the whole match, bringing some strength to the midfield. Unfortunately the team ran out of energy after such a tough first half. Gloucester Soldiers go into their final game at home against Great Lakes Vikings on Saturday August 3, which could prove to be another hard game.
DRIFTA 16s
Drifta 16s travelled to Hallidays Point on Saturday July 27. It was a beautiful and warm winter day with clear skies above. The waves could be heard rolling peacefully on the sand beyond the trees, as a minutes silence was observed.
From kickoff, Drifta maintained possession of the ball with skillful passing from Kelly Groves, Beau Blanch and Cody Howard, while a corner to Drifta, taken by Aiden Hawkins in the opening minutes saw the ball curve in out of reach of the keeper and found the back of the net to claim a brilliant goal.
Within the next minute and a few touches, Kayden brought out Hallidays keeper and slotted the ball through their defenders and past the keeper. Isaac Earle Broadley saved some brilliant goals from a Hallidays runaway after an individual ran through the park and also from a free kick near the outside of the box, jumping up and punching the ball away.
Kayden Schumann's skill was evident and proved too much for the Hallidays defenders as he zigzagged his way through them, striking two quick goals in succession. Moments before half time he claimed a hattrick.
A freekick to Hallidays near the box saw a nervous moment for Drifta, but their defensive wall made contact and sent the ball up the park. A super cross from Sam Leimgruber to Cody Howard from the sideline provided Drifta with their fifth goal.
Hallidays retaliated and snuck past Hayden Reid and the defensive line to claim their only goal before the full time whistle. The final score was 5-1. It was a spectacular game for the spectators on the sideline and one the boys all should be proud of.
Drifta's next game is against Cundletown at 11:20am on Saturday, August 3. This will be their last home game of the season before finals kick off. Drifta is currently third on the table.
CRT 13s
What a performance the 13s put into their two games last week. On Thursday night, the side played Wingham Warriors under lights. Play went from end to end with both sides defence lines under pressure. There were several corners taken at each end and the goal keepers scrambled well and never looked like letting anything through.
The final score was 0-all. The referee came up at the end of the game and congratulated everyone. It was the best game he had refereed all season and he gave Lochy the man of the match.
The second game on Saturday against Lansdowne saw the Scorpions dominate from the start. Within the first half, the Scorpions had five attempts at goal, with Jake tapping the sixth attempt in right on the half time whistle.
After a talk at half time on what could be improved, Gloucester came out in the second half with six more goals shared between Nick, Joseph and Lochy. The final score was 7-1.
