The game opened up with an unseasonably hot morning at 10am with Drifta confident on the field, even though having lost to them twice previously but have tightened the gap from a 4-0 loss, to a 2-1 loss.
Aiden Hawkins confidently crossed to Cody Howard, going one on one with their keeper numerous times, but attempts were thwarted by the oppositions' defensive line.
A throw in from Hayden Reid, bounced around in front of goals among Wingham defenders, but Kayden Schumann pounced on a loose ball to take Drifta into the lead, just eight minutes into the game, awakening the Warriors. Isaac Earle Broadley athletically saved a plethora of high shots while Isaac McClure and Tristyn Beard combined well in defence. Lane Edwards marked their fast forward, taking possession of the ball, even having an attempt himself from outside the box.
Warriors played a more physical second half, but Drifta took them by surprise with Cody Howard scoring a brilliant unstoppable goal one minute into the second half, providing a 2-0 lead. A tough tackle by Kelly Groves brought on a free kick just outside the box, Isaac Earle Broadley put his body on the line and sent it out wide. A barrage of shots came following including a long range diagonal shot over Isaacs head, brought Wingham a little closer. Drifta kept possession after the kickoff and immediately Beau Blanch took advantage of a gap, claiming a great goal to place Drifta in a more comfortable lead. Final score Drifta 3, Wingham 1.
Drifta 16's now face undefeated and top ranked Tuncurry Black in the Qualifying Final at Tuncurry on Saturday 24th August, a win in this game will see Drifta progress straight to the Grand Final.
