Last week the final of the Minor Singles Championships took place between Jan Jones and Di Lockwood. The result was a win for Jan (25-10). Well done, Jan, I think you may have been trying to win this title for six years, so you've finally made it. Also, on a glorious day for bowls, with no wind, there were also three games of social bowls played - from the hilarity it seemed that everyone enjoyed themselves! Today, the following Consistency singles take place between Di Lockwood and Del Buckton, Jill Everett and Jean Holstein, Joan Ridgeway and Jeanette Mumford and Di Pritchard and Colleen Atkins. Bev Murray forfeited to Jan Jones.

My apologies for no results recently as the snow fields called followed by the sick bed but back in action again. Recently the Gloucester number three pennant teams travelled to Tamworth to challenge for the state title against all other division three zone winners. The local boys won their first encounter against Alexandria Urskinville then came up against a strong Yamba side who proved too powerful. With a win and a loss the pressure was on against Toowongabbie to stay in finals contention. Although Gloucester gave it their all they were defeated and therefore narrowly missed out on a quarter final berth. The two teams who defeated Gloucester went on to play in the finals so congratulations to all those players who participated during the pennant season and thank you to the team manager Bob Jones for his organisation and effort. Our local singles champion John Andrews played in the Champion of Champion Singles title at Forster on 17 August. John's opponent Scott Morrison (not the politician) from Lansdowne took the lead early on a fast and inconsistent green with tricky breezes to lead 21-6 however John fought back and won 16 of the next 20 points to trail by 25-22. However the young Lansdowne boy was able to regain his earlier form over the final four ends to win 31-25 a great effort John in a strong competition. The semi finals of the men's fours have been played with Jason Cassidy, Mathew Higgins, Craig Yates, Terry Davies proving to strong for Garry Moss, Jim Whittaker, Alec Laurie, Jim McIntosh winning 25-13. The other semi resulted in a comfortable win for Kevin Everett, Rob Heininger, Neville Atkins, Mike Sheeely who were to consistent for Col Hebblewhite, Bruce Wilson, Vic Hebblewhite, Kevin Baker winning 26-15. The final is set down for 1 September and promises to be a torrid encounter with draw bowls verses on shots and drives. The draw for the first round of the mixed pairs has been completed with all matches drawn to play on Saturday afternoon 24 August but with sixteen teams entered the bowls secretary would appreciate if some matches could be played early to avoid playing games on both greens. Please contact the bowls secretary if you are playing outside of the designated time slot. The mixed fours entry form is on the board and closes on 19 September. Sunday will see a full contingent of fifty six players participating in the Blind Solo Pairs competition and entries are still being accepted for the Barrington Cup/Bucketts Shield played over two days on 14/15 September.
