Over 25 vehicles will be travelling into town as Gloucester is the starting point for the 'Sapphires to Sand' trek which is designed to raise funds for the Starlight Foundation.
The Trek4kidz will be leaving on Sunday morning (August 25) as the cars set off to travel over 2,800 kilometres to Mudgee, Armidale, Coffs Harbour, Wauchope, South West Rocks before finishing in Tuncurry on Saturday August 31.
Each year participants take their much loved cars across the country travelling on mostly dirt roads all in the name of charity. The cars will participate in creating awareness and raising funds along the way to help Starlight, Australia's broadest-reaching children's charity, who continue to brighten the lives of seriously ill children and their families.
Funds raised by this year's trek will go towards Starlight's programs supporting seriously ill children and young people across Australia.
"To see the impact Starlight's work has on sick children, teenagers and their families, we know how worthwhile the trek is - that's what keeps us coming back each year," Trek4kidz media officer Michelle McDonald said.
Starlight chief executive officer Louise Baxter said every minute of every day a child is admitted to hospital in Australia and Starlight is there to help them play, laugh and simply be kids again.
"We wouldn't be able to do this without community events like Trek4kidz, and for their ongoing support we cannot thank them enough," she said. "Trek4Kidz goes from strength to strength each year and their continued commitment to Starlight is truly inspiring."
