As a single mother, Veronica was mindful of how her son felt when her focus was turned to her baby girl two years after he was born.
Watching the two of them interact led to her writing a children's picture book called, I Love You, My Sister, which she self-published earlier this year.
"I had a story flow out of me," Veronica explained.
"I enjoy creative writing. It just seems to come out quite easily."
Although her children are a bit older than portrayed in the book, her son being 12-years-old and her daughter being 10-years-old, Veronica thought it was a good story to share that other children could relate to.
During the publication process, Veronica was matched up with an illustrator who helped bring her book to life.
The drawings reflect her and her children, which was something that was very important to her.
"I wanted it to be based on actual photos," she said. "I'm really happy with how it turned out."
For Veronica, writing is a passion; it's not just about putting words on paper, but crafting a story.
"I love to express the thoughts in my head and to make it relatable," she said.
"Having grown up around a lot of poetry there's lots of rhyming. The words come out that way; in a pattern or rhyme."
Hitting her target audience, Veronica was the special guest at the Gloucester library's storytime on Monday, September 9, where she read her story to a large group of pre-school aged children.
Veronica isn't the first writer in her family. Her grandmother, Beryl Bowden had her book titled, Growing Up in Stroud: A Memoir of the 1920s, '30's and '40's, published by the Fellowship of Australian Writers in 2009, and her mother, Anne Frost is a well-known playwright in the region, having brought her play, Lost Property to Stroud and Gloucester in 2008.
'I Love You, My Sister' is available on loan from Gloucester library, can be purchased at Gloucester Bookshop or via through Xlibris.
