The club is expecting 300 players and their families, coaches and friends to travel to Gloucester for four days of competition from Friday, October 4 to Monday, October 7. The event always brings a huge financial boost to the town of Gloucester which is welcome especially during the current drought conditions.
A big challenge for the club has been the maintenance of the clay courts. Much work has been done over the last couple of months preparing and resurfacing the courts in readiness for the tournament. As a lot of water is required to ensure the courts are prepared, the club has been granted a temporary exemption from the current level one water restrictions because of the benefit of the tournament to the town.
The tournament is run by a team of volunteers. It is a great event to be part of, both from a playing perspective and a volunteer perspective, and the whole community is invited to be involved. A roster of duties is now available. Some of these duties include court monitoring, court maintenance, administration and kitchen duties.
