"This is a great way to publicly acknowledge our local heroes, so now's the time to start thinking about those people within our community whose contributions have made a real difference, or whose achievements deserve recognition," Cr West said.
There will be a new approach to Australia Day celebrations in 2020. The Saltwater Freshwater Festival will be held at Forster for the first time, bringing with it an inclusive showcase of the region's Aboriginal culture.
"We're excited to combine our annual Australia Day celebration with something much larger that the whole community can enjoy," Cr West said.
A citizenship ceremony and presentation of the region's Australia Day awards will be held in conjunction with the festival. Community groups are also encouraged to host their own activities.
