In the championships there are three divisions; division 1 being handicaps 1-4; division 2 handicaps of 5-8; and division 3 handicaps 9-12, and all games are timed at 45 minutes. Unfortunately, the Taree club was unable to field teams this year, so two games were played in each discipline.
In division 3, Lyn Stewart played the singles with a sound 7-3 win against Port Macquarie followed by another win 6-5 against Forster. The doubles were played by Alec and Denise Bruce. Although going down in both games 4-7 and 4-6 it was a sound effort. Alec and Denise are newer members of our club and it was a first competition game for Denise. Well done to our division 3 team!
In division 2, the singles were played by Yvonne Bagnall. It wasn't Yvonne's best day, going down to Port Macquarie 3-7 and 2-7 against Forster.
Brenda Pennicuik and Bev Murray played the doubles and after a confident start, they went down 4-7 against Port Macquarie. This was followed by a very close game against Forster. Brenda and Bev stayed in front all the way until hoop 9 where Forster went ahead 5-4. With a marathon effort on hoop 10, and time being called, Brenda took the hoop to level 5 all. They had to play the next hoop for a result, with Bev taking that for a 6-5 win. Phew! It had been a challenging and hard-fought game right from the start against the men from the Forster team.
