Before the main attraction, the ladies enjoyed afternoon tea and a chance to catch up and have a chat. After president Judy Hopkins welcomed everyone, Val Smith was named as the first winner, taking away the lucky door prize.
Then the auction proceeded, with six high school students walking around the room, presenting the prizes up for grabs. It's was up to Keeley Yates, Chloe Edstein, Melia Mulder, Sarah and Hayley Griffiths and Laura Stone to make sure each table got a good look at what was being auctioned, so the attendees could decide how many tickets they wanted to add to the bucket. Once everyone had a chance to put their name in, the bucket was taken to the front of the room for the lucky winner to be drawn out.
Throughout the afternoon, the prizes were flowing and many attendees claiming as many as four to take home. Bev Green won the 50c special with Christine Redman claiming second prize. Much to everyone's surprise, three males took the main raffles, Terry Edwards of Barrington was first, Fred J Lauer of Stratford was second, and Jack Yates of Gloucester was third.
At the end of the proceedings, Judy presented the young volunteers with a thank you certificate prepared by Noel Monro; thanks Noel. Proceeds from the auction will be given to the Gloucester Soldiers' Memorial Hospital to purchase equipment to improve the comfort of its patients.
It was an enjoyable afternoon for everyone.
The large range of great varied prizes for the event were donated by the auxiliary and several locals. These included: Barrington Store, Tracy's Salon, Paula Standen, Denise Hawdon, Nikki Ellis, Marcia Rock, IGA, David Fraser, Anne Sansom, Lucy Germon. The auxiliary also thanks Robyn Bolton (Gloucester Health Foods) where the ladies made their bookings.
