On Wednesday, December 4 students choose from a range of career options to test out ahead of the work experience program they'll take part in next year.

GHS careers adviser, Michael De Angelis organises the trial day utilising the businesses around the Gloucester region.

"It's an integral component of our School To Work Program, offering year nine students the opportunity to gain practical experience in a chosen occupation," Mr De Angelis said.

This year, students were able to test out things like retail, beef farming, mechanical works, real estate, construction, fitness, aged care, radio, childcare, metal work, aquaculture and disability work.

One of the options was to learn a little bit more about the GHS STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) program and what careers can come it. It was Emma Elder's choice as she's interested in becoming a carpenter and it was a chance to learn about engineering, while Hayley Connell, thought it the most interesting options.

Ava Tuckwell, Anita Jackson and Brooke Willis decided to hang out at Bucketts Radio and learn what it's like be live on the microphone of a community radio station. It was Ava's love of music that drove her decision, Brooke thought it sounded interesting and Anita wanted to try something new.

"It's something different. Something I haven't tried before," Anita said.

Anna-Rose Seale and Alarni Longbottom took advantage of the offer to spend the day at Barrington Street Preschool. Anna-Rose is interested in childcare as a career option, while Alarni liked the idea of interacting with the children. Kayden Schumann tried is hand at auto mechanics, spending the day at Valley Motors.

Try-a-trade Day, plus the year 10 work experience program, are designed to help students make more informed choices about their future career paths.
