Hot weather often results in engines overheating and adding that to the steep, continual 936 metre incline in just over 12 kilometres from Giro Road in Bretti to Carson's Pioneer Lookout on the Thunderbolts Way, motorists can encounter problems.
Thanks to a random act of kindness, motorists travelling the mountain who need to pull over will come across containers full of water for their radiator.
Travellers through the region over the Christmas period found themselves in this predicament. But thanks to the containedrs of water, they were able to continue their journey.
So thankful were they for the assistance, they sent a private message to Mel Kirby, the administration of the private Gloucester New South Wales Community Notice Board Facebook group, which Mel shared on December 29.
"Would like to give a big shout out and thank you to the persons responsible for leaving water about 40kms out of Gloucester on Thunderbolts Way heading up the massive big hill," the message said.
"We had to stop and use some. So thank you. There is still some great Aussie spirit out there."
Not only are there several milk crates full of water containers, but there are also helpful tips to ensure motorists make it the rest of the way up the hill.
"Turn air con off till the top of the hill and drive about 2.5 to 3 RPM, you should be okay," the instructions read.
The water is located about halfway up the steepest part of the hill in a prime location for motorists in their time of need.
