When the Barrington River pretty much stopped flowing and became more of a swamp than a vibrant river providing water for the Gloucester community, residents got worried.

As things got bad right in the middle for the Christmas / New Year's period, residents were unable to get answers from MidCoast Council about what was happening due to office closures.
Despite council having been open with the community in the months leading up to the cease in flow about the possibility that Gloucester may need water carted in, when it finally happened council didn't inform the community.
This sparked a social media call out for council to hold a meeting to update people on what was happening and what the plan was for future water security.
Upon hearing the community's cry, and with no plan for council to hold such a meeting, councillor and Gloucester resident, Katheryn Smith decided she needed to pull something together in order to put people's minds at ease.
"It's an opportunity for the community to hear the correct information about the water and fire situations from those who know," Katheryn said.
"My hope is to bring together as many resources as possible, so community members can have their questions answered."
The meeting is due to take place on Thursday, January 16 at the Gloucester Soldiers Club from 6pm.
So far, she's had attendance confirmation from council's director of infrastructure and engineering services Rob Scott and Daniel Trudgeon from Hunter Local Lands Services.
Katheryn said the session is simply a chance for the community to be updated and not intended as a platform for people to air their grievances.
"I understand the community's frustration and want to bring everyone together with an information and question and answer session," Katheryn explained. "The service providers that are coming are all under the pump, and I appreciate them taking the time to come to Gloucester."
Council has been providing the community with updates about the water security plan via the community conversation session, with the last update provided in November.
