This award is for all the producers associated with the Great Lakes Food Trail, Sue Williams said as she accepted the inaugural 2020 MidCoast Council Community Activity of the Year award.

The award was announced and presented to the Great Lakes Food Trail president and Topi Open Range farm owner, during Australia Day celebrations in Forster last Sunday, January 26.
Established three years ago, the event attracts thousands of tourists to the area, educates attendees about local, ethical farming and continues to increase awareness of good and healthy food for the community.
"Our goal was to connect local and ethical produce with the community," Sue said.
"This (award) gives us comfort we are heading in the right direction.

"We are very grateful for the recognition," she said.
"A lot of work goes into the event; the work is done by the producers themselves.
"The give up their time to make the event such a success.
"This award is for every member."
Stretching from Bulahdelah to Rainbow Flat, the food trail opens its doors, gates, and workshops twice a year showcasing a range of food and beverages from freshly grown produce to craft beer.
The area has grown beyond producing just wine and seafood Sue said.
And, many of the members are award winning producers, she said.
"It is also important to foster food security in the area; we have so much access to fresh food."
The group's next big event will be held on Sunday, April 19 from 9am to 4pm.
