On Saturday, March 14 the team took five steers and entered them in the cattle section at the show held at the Nabiac Showground.
Gloucester High was one of the three schools involved along with Taree Christian College and Chatham High. Students got up early to organise their cattle ready for the show to start at 8am.
The students handled the long tiring day professionally, proudly representing Gloucester High. The cattle were impeccably calm along with the students working together as a team making the day run smoothly.
The excitement started off with first place awarded in the light weight section with their steer QP (Quarter Pounder) led by Ethan Edwards, followed by the mid weight section first place with "Peekaboo" led by Tayla Casey, third with "Pipsqueak" led by Olivia Marsh and fifth with "Pekka" led by Miranda Yates.
Both QP and Peekaboo qualified for the Champion of the Champions section, where "Peekaboo" led by Tayla Casey was awarded Reserve Grand Champion.
Although it wasn't only the cattle that competed, the students participated in the junior judging section and their paraders class.
Three students were selected to do a speech in the junior judging class, and the team walked away with ribbons; Jackson Gorton placed third, followed by Meghan Baldock with fourth and Trisha Richards with fifth place.
In the 12-14 age paraders class, Jackson Gorton placed third, Jessica Murray got fourth and Miranda Yates received fifth.
In the 14-16 age class, Jessica Kernhan placed seventh and Katrina Channon was eighth. Ethan Edwards received first place in the 16-18 age class qualifying to the champions round and walked out being named Reserve Grand Champion parader.
At the end of the day, Gloucester competed in the schools section along with Chatham High and Taree Christian College. Not only did Gloucester try but they also won the Riverside Park Brafords School Achievement Award trophy.
The Gloucester High team ranges from years eight to 12, along with the guidance and support of agricultural teacher, Erin Blake.
Although this may have been their last show for a while they definitely went out with a bang and sparkling smiles.
