Gloucester's annual photography competition, Pix from the Stix will look a little different this year due to the COVID situation, but it's still going ahead.
After the Gloucester Arts and Cultural Council Inc (GACCI) was forced to close its art gallery, Gloucester Gallery, under the ministerial rules, the committee needed to make a call about its much-loved competition.
It was agreed to proceed but with a few modifications.
This year's Pix organisers, Georgia Britton and Rachel Saunders decided the entire exhibition would run solely online as they weren't sure when the gallery would be permitted to reopen.
"The lockdown changed everything really," Georgia explained. "It meant the gallery itself was closed and it also meant that travel was restricted and photographic printers and framers would also be closed. Traditional Pix entries were going to be very hard to create."

When the country when into lockdown and the gallery was forced to close, the committee wanted to make sure it still had something for the members of the arts community and lovers of art to look forward to.
"It was a time of anxiety and we felt that we could offer our community some sense of 'business as usual ' and an uplifting and positive outlet," Georgia explained.
Even though the Gloucester Gallery reopened early June, Georgia and Rachel wanted to keep the format the same, not only to provide continuity for the photographers looking to enter but also to provide certainty that the competition would proceed if the rules changed again.
"We also feel that by having it online we are giving more people the opportunity to share their visions, by removing the requirements of printing and framing, which can be real obstructions for many," Georgia said. "It also offers a wider audience the opportunity to see our visions."
Pix from the Stix 2020 has eight categories: Faces I Have Met, The Lie Of The Land (Gloucester region only), The Natural Environment, Culture, Man Made, Not Your Normal Photo, Absence Of Colour and Junior (open genre).
