Individual Stableford Event played on August 8.
It was a shame we weren't able to hold the Tom Blundell day on the weekend - the virus continues to disrupt our lives and this disruption is something we may have to get used to. We did have a few lads from out of town come and join us for the comp though. It was great to see Wayne "Grasshopper" Westley back at royal Gloucester and also David "Dude" Maddalena.
Saturday's chilly conditions weren't reflected in the scores on the day. Several players played to their handicap or better and the best of the better group was A Grader Steve MacDonald who fired a sensational 1 over par 73 to post a handicap-smashing 41 points! Great work Steve - just reward for your mighty efforts as club treasurer helping to keep the club in a viable position. In B Grade Mark "Duck" Howland prevailed with an impressive 39 points. Fine effort that. Mark Stone took home the C Grade bacon by following up last weeks' good form with 34 points.
Ball Comp: Above winners + Wayne Westley 37, John Herd 35, Ben Veitch 34, Brian Osborne 34, Andrew Sansom 33, Wayne Maddalena 33, David Maddalena 32, Rob Moore 32, Glenn Williams 32, Peter Wildblood 31, Jamie Andrews 36.
Arkwood Trophy Day
Individual Stroke Event played on August 1.
The Monthly Medal winner for August was one of our former club presidents in Derek Bardwell.
Derek's golf is normally very consistent and he is never far from the winners circle. A 70 nett was good enough to take out the medal. Good to see you back into the swing of it Derek.
He also took out the C Grade gross with 92. In B Grade our hard working handicapper David Mann was top of the list with 75 nett & Brian Osborne took out the gross with 91.
Jamie Andrews had a 73 off the beater to win the gross ad his 72 nett was also the A Grade nett winning score. Nice shooting Emu!
Ball Comp: Above winners + Paul Blanch 74, M. Howard 74, Brian Osborne 75, Steve MacDonald 77, Mark Stone 77, M. Collagan 77, Rob Moore 77, Mark Howland 77 and Mitch Andrews 77.
For those members keen for a hit during the week don't forget our Super 7 comp which runs each Sunday to Friday. Holes 3 to 9 count towards your final score and you can play as many times as you like during the week.
Results from this week: Winner: Joost Werz 20. Congratulations Joost, that is a very impressive score! Ball winners: Peter Buettel 17, Rob Moore 17, Tony Burnett 17, Phil Bowden 16, Phil Hawkins 15 & Bill Murray 15. Pete Markey was most unlucky to get beat on a countback.
Furniture One Trophy Day
A Two Man Ambrose played on July 25
Our Saturday comp this week was kindly sponsored by Gloucester Furniture One. A big thank you to Nikki and the team - we really value your continued support.
Once again an immaculate course greeted the eager field of golfers and although the rain made an appearance mid-afternoon it was not heavy enough to prevent the later players finishing.
Two teams stood above the rest of the field at the end of proceedings and it was only 1/4 of a shot difference between winners and runners up. The youthful combination of Paul Benson and Paul Blanch prevailed (61 1/2 nett) over the even more youthful pairing of Jamie and Mitch Andrews (61 3/4 nett).
Well done lads - very impressive scoring from both teams.
Ball Comp: Above winners/runners up + Ben Veitch/Steve Burns 62 1/2 , Steve MacDonald/Chris Murray 63, Matt Bowden/Bill Murray, 64 1/4, Shane & Roy Crichton 65 1/2, Gav McDonald/Stacey Groves 66 3/4.
Good golfing, Shankers Apprentice.
