As with most other sports, croquet had been vastly different in 2020.
Only one game was played in the Mid North Coast competition when all play was suspended due to COVID-19.
Play resumed in the latter part of the year but in a COVID restricted form.
At a small presentation afternoon at the end of December, Gloucester Croquet Club president Brenda Pennicuik gave a summary of the year, followed by the presentation of medals for games able to be played within our club.
The club singles were played in November with numbers for this event being particularly good.
Lyn Stewart was the winner and Bev Fagan runner-up.
Congratulations Lyn on being club champion for 2020.
The President's Cup (a handicapped doubles event) wasn't played until December.
The lateness of this event resulted in only a small field of four teams.
This was won by Judy Hopkins and Bev Fagan with runners up Ken Gosson and Brenda Pennicuik.
The Beaton trophy which was to have been played in early September had unfortunately fallen victim to restrictions that were put in place by Croquet NSW.
A handicapped singles competition was later played and resulted in Yvonne Bagnall winning on a forfeit from Lyn Stewart.
Brenda reminded those present that while we had to say farewell to a couple of members, we were also fortunate to be able to welcome some new ones too.
In concluding she thanked all members and the committee for 'stepping up' when needed - making it easier to make it through a challenging year.
Croquet resumes for 2021 with a social afternoon commencing 4pm on Australia Day.
While COVID-19 restrictions will apply all are welcome.
Please phone a committee member for more information. Following Australia Day, the usual morning and afternoon play will resume.
