The glorious Gloucester golf course was back to its brilliant best on Saturday - still damp enough though to have preferred lies on. It will only be another couple of weeks before we're back to "play as it lies" conditions.
Gloucester Golf Club's sponsors for Saturday were the formidable pairing of Graeme Marsh and David Boehme. These two golf addicts have been sponsoring for many years now. They've also been generous with their time to assist with many projects around the club & course. Many thanks boys - keep up the good work.
Steve Williams' red hot form continued with another 40 points on the board to back up his 40 from last week. This equates to a drop back to a single figure handicap - if this keeps up he'll give the big guns a run for the club championship.
Runner-up to Steve with 38 points was another Steve. Mr Macdonald has found the sort of form he's been seeking for a while - another sub-par round is looming just around the corner.
B Grade's best was posted by the Peter "The Mountain" Bignell. Pete's 39 points was pleasing to see for a guy who splits his sport between the golf green and the bowling green. Maybe this round will ensure his bias is weighted to the golf. The ebullient William Murray was runner-up to Pete with 37 points just edging out Darrell Wisemantel on a countback.
C Grade best score was also 39 points and Gary Cobbing was the man responsible. Gary is no stranger to the winners circle and be assured there will be many more wins like this to come. Mark Stone came in second with 35 points.
Ball Comp: Above winners + David Parish 38, Mark Howland 38, Craig McLeod 37, Murray Bowden 37, Darrell Wisemantel 37.
NTP A: Steve MacDonald NTP B: Darrell Wisemantel NTP C: Ken Wiggins
Long Drive B: John Parish
Be sure to turn up on Australia Day to contest for the Australia Day Medal - this event will be played over the back nine layout (Blue tees). You can play any time of day. Next week's Saturday event is a single stableford with trophies kindly donated by Lorraine and Kevin Adams.
Super 7 results from this week: Winner: Ian Maggs 19(c/b). Ball comp: Doug Blanch 19, D. Cox 18, Mark Howland 17, D. Salmon 16, John Parish 16 & Graham Hjorth 16.
Good golfing.
