Country Days, Country Ways opens on Thursday, February 25 and is a celebration of the wonderful things that people in country towns believe in and do wholeheartedly.
While John's past exhibitions have been centred around traditional and semi-abstract landscapes, he's made a radical change with his new works.
He encourages people to look at local events like never before, from cattle sales to a simple visit to the tip. His works capture caricatures of local identities and bring quirky personalities to cars, utes and motorbikes.
Rachel's work brings a varied interpretation of the theme. Her passion for the country drives the creation of artworks in various media to reflect this love and the pace of country days. She has used composite photoart images to create double exposures of historic buildings juxtaposed on peaceful rural views.
This reflects her journey through life from rural United Kingdom, through the fast pace of advertising and exhibiting in Sydney, back to the peace of the country near Gloucester. More recently her artistic endeavours have flourished into acrylic painting, charcoal and ink drawings and printmaking.
John and Rachel will be hosting a COVID-safe official opening at the gallery on Saturday, February 27 from 2 - 4pm.
Country Days, Country Ways runs from Thursday February 25 until Sunday March 21 at the Gloucester Gallery, 25 Denison Street. For this exhibition, the gallery will be open Monday to Saturday from 10am until 4pm and Sunday from 10am until 1pm. Entry is free.
