Gloucester Arts and Cultural Council Inc (GACCI) and Gloucester Soldiers Club are welcoming the troupe to town for two performances on April 17.
It's the first time the group will grace the stage in Gloucester and it promises to be an event to remember for anyone who loves a bit of music, a side of humour and colourful costumes.
Although dramatist W. S. Gilbert and composer Arthur Sullivan were a Victorian-era theatrical partnership, their 'comic operas' have stood the test of time.
This creative team shook up the theatre world by developing a new style for the stage known as 'operettas' or 'light operas' - a combination of opera and musical.
Gilbert and Sullivan (G&S) introduced innovations in content and form that directly influenced the development of musical theatre through the 20th century.
While an operetta tends to be shorter than opera and mix song with spoken dialogue with a dash of impressive dance numbers, the Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Sydney company will be performing more a collection from the repertoire.
According to company president Dean Sinclair, the troupe coming to Gloucester is made up of some of their most accomplished artists.
"We've included pretty much all of the best-loved G&S musical hits for the program," Dean said.
"It'll be full of fun, superbly costumed, some dancing- and a few surprises thrown in."
Dean trained as a tenor, has been a G&S specialist for well over 20 years and has a particular love for performing the comedy and character roles.
Over the past eight years he's been president and watched the company grow its productions.
"As well as performing, I've also directed two main stage productions for the company in recent years, as well as several concerts," Dean said.
Like any artists, the company has been rocked by COVID-19 and this will be their first performance in more than a year.
"The team is incredibly excited about our upcoming visit to Gloucester," he said.
"It's a rare treat for us to be performing in regional NSW. But we're keen to do a lot more of it."
The show takes to the stage at the Gloucester Soldiers Club on Saturday April 17.
Doors open at noon for the 1pm matinee and 6pm for the 7pm evening show.
