It was the first of the "winter" starts with 24 men and women hitting off in a 9am shotgun start into mild and pleasant conditions. The course played well in great condition and did little to get in the way of good golf; in other words, there were no excuses! Sponsors were Marge and John Woodford who have sponsored Gloucester vets for many years and continue to do so well after they have moved from the district.
The winner was Tony Burnet who scored 38 Stableford points followed closely by joint runners up John Herd and Mike Howard with 37 points each. The winners in the associated ball competition were Denver Webb and Bob Kirkup 35 followed by Gai Falla, Peter Buettel and Dale Rabbett on 33. The Nearest-to-the-Pins were won by Bert Newman at the 4-13th holes; at the 6-15th holes John Herd and Dale Rabbett did the job.
On Tuesday April13, there is an Individual Stableford that doubles as the first round of the Glowing Shield an annual two-way contest between Gloucester and Wingham Veteran golfers. The club is looking forward to a good turnout of Wingham visitors for the golfing contest and the lunch together afterwards.
The following week, on Tuesday April 20 there is an Individual Stroke and Putting competition sponsored by Anne and Col Roser.
