Thanks to funding support from the Arts Mid North Coast Shine SHINE Microgrant, Gloucester Arts and Cultural Council Inc (GACCI) will be launching it's Youth Arts Space at the Gloucester Citizens Centre.
The event on Friday, April 30 is free for registered teens aged 12 - 18 years interested in all aspects of performance art from music and drama, through to stage design and sound engineering.
According to event organiser Bob Swadling, GACCI hopes to attract a group of young people looking to engage in a self-driven performance project.
"The workshop on Friday is designed to give the kids a taste of what we can support them in and also to find out what types of arts they are interested," Bob said.
"It would be great to see them come together and create a musical production as a group from the ground up, doing everything from writing the script and music to designing the costumes and posters.
"We really want this program driven by what interests the youth of Gloucester."
As far as the launch workshop goes, it will be centred around music, with a young group musicians travelling up from the Central Coast to work with the attendees.
The workshop is open to all ranges of ability and even welcomes those who just want to be an audience member until they become more comfortable and want to participate.
During the launch, GACCI is hoping to collect a list of young people looking to be a part of ongoing Friday afternoon workshops.
The organisation is registered for the Creative Kids program which can be used toward the very low cost of the weekly program.
Youth Arts Space launch runs from 5-7pm at the Gloucester Citizens Centre, 30 Hume Street.
In order to be involved, teens must have their parents or guardians register them through GACCI's website gloucester-arts.com.au/youth-arts-space.html prior to attending.
GACCI has a COVID-safety plan in place and will require all attendees to sign in with the QR Code.
