Thursday's men's bowls was again a complete wash out without a bowl touching the green but a field of 26 players fronted on Saturday morning with four welcome visitors from Belmont Bowling Club participating.
The local team of Don Meheiloff, Jean Holstein and Steve Kriss won the prize money defeating Gary Northey, Joan Ridgeway and Joy Hurworth 21-12. Julie Kriss and Neville Holstein defeated Di Lockwood and Wendy Cole in a reduced number of ends 21-12. Judy Sheely and Steve Brown had a great tussle against Stephen Hurworth and Jim Henderson but Judy and Steve won the last three ends for a 16-12 victory. Ken Bryant, John Andrews and Karen Heininger had a narrow 16-15 win over Derrick Cole, Kevin Everett and Sue Bryant. And in the remaining game Alex Laurie skipped his side of Cheryl Northey and Mike Sheely to a 19-15 win over George Wisemantel, Jill Everett and Anne Andrews.
The semi finals of the pairs championships were contested on Saturday afternoon. Both matches resulted in surprisingly large margins with Lu Urby and Vic Hebblewhite being back in the club before sunset conceding the last two ends to Jason Cassidy and Aaron Kelly for a 25-15 victory. Likewise Nico Duynhoven and Neville Atkins put shockwaves through Michael Butler and Tony Tersteeg only conceding five ends for a 27-9 win which set up a final on Sunday in lovely sunshine. But Cassidy and Kelly handled the big stage better gaining six shots on the eighth end and were never headed afterwards bouncing up and down the green to become the 2021 pairs champion with a 32-14 margin.
The nominations for the men's triples championships close on Thursday June 10 and players are reminded entry fees must be paid prior to the draw being completed and no social bowls will be played this weekend as the Jason Collins triples tournament will be competed for on Saturday June 12 and Sunday June 13.
