Just on 60 golfers hit the fairways in a Gloucester Golf Club novelty event called a Texas Shootout on Saturday, June 12. That's not too bad a turnout considering all reports pointed to the day as being bitterly cold.

The event itself was sponsored by Barlow Brothers and it involves teams of four players in a form of novelty play which is a cross between an Irish Four Ball and a Four Person Ambrose.
The winning team John Parish, Rob Parish, Dave Salmon and Mick Young finished well ahead of the field with their 137 points. They were followed by runners up Eric Barlow, David Hay, Trevor Middlebrook and Kevin Arney with a very respectable 133 points.
Paul Coote, Graham Marsh, Steve Morgan and Alan Fogarty were well back at 124 points for third position just ahead of fourth place getters David Wisemantel, Bruce McKechnie, Dave Duggan and Alan Wall 121.
Tom Dare, Bruce Fraser, Daryl Smith and Jim Russell, 119, came home in fifth place. Those teams picking up ball trophies were John herd, Bert Newman, Brian McInnes and Roy Crichton, 118, followed by two teams on 114 points Bill Murray, Chris Murray, Elaine Murray and Rale Rabbett and Brian Barlay, David Boehme, Phil Bowden and Rob Moore 114.
Wayne Maddalena, Randall Buckley, Rob Watson and Lindsay Ribbons picked up the last of the balls on offer with 113 points.
Nearest-to-the-Pins were won by Murray Bowden and Randall Buckley at the 4th and 13th holes while Elaine Murray, Phil Bowden and John Parish did the job at the 6th and 15th holes. The NTP in two shots at the 9th and 18th holes was won by Randall Buckley and Steve Morgan won the long drive at the 8th and 17th holes.
The Super Sevens for the week ending Friday June 11 was won by Graham Marsh with 18 Stableford points and Denver Webb, 17, Graham Hjorth, 16, and Mark Howland, 14, all picked up a ball for their trouble.
Next Saturday, 19 June, is the Men's Foursomes Championships sponsored by Col Laurie and Roy Crichton and the following week there is an Individual Stableford sponsored by Jason Collins Transport.
