Three games of 13 ends were played on Saturday in ideal conditions with some very close scores which were carried over into Sunday's two games of fifteen ends. With points being awarded for games won and ends won the overall winners were the Andrews family of John, Jamie and Mitch who won four of their five games contested to amass enough points to collect the major prize money.
Skipper John thanked the Gloucester club for welcoming grandson Mitch who is the first junior club member for some years. President Bob Jones presented Mitch with his club junior registration prior to the tournament and the club welcomes any new juniors to join in this age changing game.
Runners up were Mark Groves, Tony Tersteeg and Steven Higgins and third place went to Kevin Everett, Mike Sheely and Neville Atkins. The 'Don' received the unlucky player award for the weekend and the villain award went to skipper Lu Urby who decided to play the last bowl of the tournament when his side were holding seven shots and in an unbeatable position and collected the kitty to give the opposition one shot to win the game and has now become 'yesterday's hero'.
Many thanks to the sponsors Gloucester Rural Supplies and Jason Collins Transport and to all who helped during the tournament and the first round of the men's triples championships will be played on Saturday June 19 commencing at 1pm with the second round played on Sunday June 20, so please check the board regarding your game.
