The day was wintry at the outset though quickly warming to very pleasant golfing conditions. The only excuse for poor scores was provided by the course itself not that it wasn't in outstanding condition but that it did present as a tad on the heavy side after the consistent rain of the past few weeks.
Mike finished in top spot with a two-under-par 38 points, followed closely by Trevor on 36 points. The rest of the field was well back with skipper Derek Bardwell the top ball winner in the ball competition with his 32 points; he was followed one point behind by Denver Webb, 31. Gary Peters, Joost Werz and Mark Stone also picked up balls with scores of 30; the remaining two balls went to Rick Paff and Mark Howland with their 29 points.
The veteran golfers were due to travel to Harrington Waters Golf Club on Monday July 19 for the away leg of the Water Buckets Challenge, but this has been postponed due to "an abundance of caution" being applied in the current regional COVID-19 restrictions. Tuesday July 20 they will be playing an Individual Stroke and Putting competition sponsored by Marj and Ken Clarke and the following week there is an Individual Stableford followed by lunch and the AGM.
