A field of 28 bowlers competed for the prize money at the Gloucester Bowlgin Club on Thursday when John Andrews, Tony Tersteeg and Kevin Burley won the day with a 37-15 thrashing over Jason Casidy, Gordon Pritchard and Lu Urby.

Vic Hebblewhite, Bruce Wilson, Terry Higgins only conceded seven ends but couldn't amass any more than two shots on any end for a narrow 21-17 victory over George Wisemantel, Andrew Henderson and Robert Hayes. In another close encounter Neville Atkins, Harry Cox and Charlie Faulkner played a 16 all draw with Chris Pritchard, Ken Bryant and Robbie Bowden.
Brian Holstein, Clive Redman and James Davison proved too strong for Nico Duynhoven, Norm McLeod and Steve Kriss winning 25-16. And in a pairs game, Terry Davies and Stephen Hurworth defeated Don Mehieloff and Alex Laurie 25-20.
In mixed bowls, Nico Duynhoven, Di Lockwood and Ken Bryant were winners 31-17 over Mike Sheely, Del Buckton and Julie Kriss. Jean Holstein and Alex Laurie collected six shots on the last three ends to defeat Kevin Everett and Bev Murray 27-22. Steve Kriss combined with Judy Sheely to defeat Joan Ridgeway and Joy Hurworth 20-13. And Jill Everett, Stephen Hurworth and Sue Bryant played a 19 all draw with John Andrews, Chris Pritchard and Anne Andrews.
In the first round of the minor singles championship played in windy conditions, Gary Moss proved too consistent for Terry Carson winning 31-16. Mathew Higgins came home strong after being 20 all to defeat Stephen Hurworth 31-21. Bob Jones and Brian Holstein had a cliffhanger with Brian holding the winning shots but Bob sneaked a bowl in to take the match 31-27. George Wisemantel defeated the new chop on the block Dennis Bartlet 31-15. And in the match of the day, Terry Higgins and Vic Hebblewhite played like champions with Vic holding a 30-28 lead when the knees started to tremble and gave Terry a sniff which he took by getting three shots on the last two ends for 31-30 victory.
The second round was played on Sunday in shocking conditions which spoiled a good day of bowls with Tony Tersteeg getting an early lead which he never surrendered over Alex Laurie to win 31-13. Gary Moss spent all his good form on Saturday and went down 31-12 to George Wisemantel. Kevin Burley and Andrew Henderson enjoyed the windy conditions so much they played forty two ends to get a result with Kevin finally taking the game 32-27. But the player of the day was Chris Pritchard who amassed 22 shots before he allowed Steve Kriss to finally get on the board which brought a roar from the crowd. But Chris continued to take Steve's shots out for a comfortable 32-9 win. The quarter finals will be contested on Saturday July 31 commencing at 1pm followed by the semi finals on Sunday August 1 at 9.30am.
