This increased testing comes as six new COVID cases were recorded in the Manning Great Lakes and a new exposure site was identified in Taree. Anyone who attended Taree Pet Barn, 61 Whitbread Street, Taree on Tuesday, October 12, between 9am to 4pm are casual contacts (unless they have been notified by NSW Health that they are a close contact) and must get tested and isolate until a negative test result is received.

A total of 301 locally acquired COVID cases were reported to 8pm last night across NSW, 73 of which are from Hunter New England Local Health District (HNEH).

Hunter New England Population Health public health physician, David Durrheim said this brings the total number of cases in the HNEH district to 2198 since August 5, 2021. Of the new cases:

Sadly, two women in thre HNEH district died with COVID 19. A woman in her 50s from Newcastle LGA died in Calvary Mater Newcastle. She had received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and had underlying health conditions. A woman in her 70s from Cessnock LGA died in John Hunter Hospital. She had received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and had underlying health conditions.

NSW has reached the 80 per cent double dose vaccination milestone.

To 11.59pm on Friday, October 15, 2021 across NSW, 91.9 per cent of people aged 16 and over had received a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 79.8 per cent were fully vaccinated.

With the doses administered by the GP Network and pharmacies yesterday (Saturday), which will be included in this update tomorrow (Monday), more than 80 per cent of people aged 16 and over in NSW are now fully vaccinated.

In the 12-15 year old age group, 74 per cent have had their first dose, and 32 per cent are fully vaccinated.
