The commemoration services went well, although attendance was down. The schools were restricted in attending the service but with true Aussie spirit the teachers found a way. Students lined up on the fence around the grounds where they could see the Memorial Clock Tower and observe the service.
MidCoast Council councillor, Katheryn Smith, Lower North Coast District Council Sub-branch executive president, Brian Willey and other community members laid wreaths in memory of our fallen men and women. Veteran, Ethan Emery laid a wreath for the veterans and to mark the end of conflict in Afghanistan. WWII veteran, Toby Wilson OAM laid a wreath for our centenary in recognition of all passed members and veterans.
The luncheon was catered for by Judy Hopkins and the Rookhurst Ladies and as usual they presented a splendid meal. The centenary cake was provided by Hebby's and was cut by Bob Murray.
Gloucester RSL Sub-branch members and women's auxiliary can be proud of their dedicated service to the veterans, their families and the community. I am sure our past comrades would agree. We ask our younger veterans to continue our work, consolidate and continue to remember our diggers into the future.
