According to a council spokesperson, the decision was made due to the rising water levels and excessive rain that has impacted the region.
"The grounds are just too wet," the spokesperson said.
Several areas of the north-western end of the park near the Gloucester River are saturated with water - some low-lying areas have even turned into small dams.
The Gloucester River is also quite high and moving very quickly through the park after the continued days of rain.
While the boom gates have been locked to restrict vehicles from entering certain areas of the grounds, council says that pedestrians are still welcome.
"The park is expected to be closed to vehicular traffic for the weekend," the spokesperson said.
The Bureau of Meteorology posted a minor flood warning for the Gloucester River on its website yesterday afternoon (Thursday December 9), however, the warning was lifted a short while later.
The warning was issued after heavy rainfall was recorded across the Gloucester, Barrington and Manning River catchments during Wednesday night (December 8).
