Tuesday's (January 18) Gloucester Veteran Golf Club's competition saw a good-sized field of 28 turn out in conditions scheduled to take a turn for the worse later in the day. This duly occurred but not before the field had turned in the cards and sat about congratulating themselves on their play through to presentation.

The event itself was an Individual Stableford sponsored by Marj and Brian McInnes. Shane Crichton, still young enough to only play as a welcome honorary veteran, had the best round of the day with a score of 37 Stableford points. Shane volunteered to forgo his trophy, so all trophies ran down the field providing Dale Rabbett in second place with the winner's trophy on a count back from Denver Webb both scoring 36 points. Mark Stone was the 'big winner' on the day picking up the third placed trophy promoted from leading ball winner to the top three. He got there on a count back with a modest 34 points. Leading the ball winners was Col Ware, 34, followed by Tony Burnet, Mike Howard, and Peter Sate 33, and Gai Fall and Rick Paff bringing up the rear with 32 points apiece.
Nearest-to-the-Pins were won by Brian McInnes, whose shot at the 4th and 13th holes was 303 cm from the hole, and Shane Crichton, who was a touch more accurate at the 6th and 15th holes a mere 127 cm from home.
On Tuesday January 25, the Gloucester Veterans will be playing an Individual Stableford sponsored by Anne and John Herd. The following week there is a Four Ball better Ball Stableford sponsored by Bert Newman.
