Tom was a long-standing member whose will provided the club the funds to construct the current outdoor bar which now bears his name.
The Tom Blundell Memorial Day is staged each year in his honour. The event is run as a four person Ambrose which attracted bumper field of 64 starters. Jason Collins Transport stood up to sponsor the day.
The top of the leader board was a very closely contested with the first three places separated by a mere five-eighths of a stroke. Winners were Paul Blanch, Jackson Blanch, Paul Benson and Mark Munro with a team score of 581/4. In second place were B Ritter, T Ritter, N McDonald and S Murray, 581/2 , and in third place were Adam Cameron, Dallas Schultz, Jamie Andrews and Kyran Laurie 58 and 5/8.
The next three placings went to Rob Moore, Graham Marsh, David Boehme and Peter Markey in fourth place with 59 and 5/8; Paul Garland Steve Williams, Garry Williams and Ben Veitch were fifth on 601/4; Mitchell Young, John Parish, R Parish and D Parish scored 603/4 for their sixth placing. All those outside of the top six teams took home a golf ball for their trouble.
The Super Sevens for the week ending Friday, June 24 was won by David Maddalena with 18 points. Ball winners were Wayne Maddalena 16, Doug Blanch 13, Peter Buettel 12 with Arthur Poynting picking up the last back on a count back with a miserly 11 points.
On Saturday, July 2 Gloucester golfers will be playing their July Monthly Medal and individual stroke. The following Saturday there will be a two-person ambrose sponsored by Gloucester Ceramics.
Course the winner
GLOUCESTER veteran golfers did it tough on Tuesday, June 21 with all players well clear of a handicapped par round.
The weather was fine and sunny and nicely warm after a brisk start although the course itself was still on the heavy side after autumn rain.
The event was an individual stableford sponsored by Bonnie and Joost Werz and no one would have been more surprised with a win with just 33 points than Brian McInnes. Two points behind Brian was runner up Ken Kelly with 31 points; balls were won by Trevor Sharp 27, Arthur Pointing and Bob Kirkup 26 with the last ball going to Peter Sate two further behind with a miserly 24 points. No doubt runner up Ken Kelly owed much of his overall score to his field day with the Nearest-to-the-pins ending up 555cm from the hole on the 4th and 13th holes and 205cm from the hole at the 6th and 15th holes. The veterans will play the annual women v veterans individual stableford next Tuesday.
