Denise, a Gloucester Lions Club member for 16 years, attended the Lions Club International Conference (LCICon) at Montreal at the end of June, which was preceded by two days' training for new district governors.
"It was excellent. It was really quite inspiring. It made me more enthusiastic about my position, actually being there and then listening to all the guest speakers and mingling with all the other people from all other countries that are becoming district governors of their district," Denise said.
When asked about what she wanted to achieve in her 12 month position as district governor, Denise said her biggest challenge was membership.
Like all volunteer community organisations, membership is dwindling due to an ageing volunteer base, and the difficulty of finding younger people interested in joining.
The community would be at a great loss without volunteer organisations such as Lions.
"We've helped a lot of (other) community organisations; we've helped schools and hospitals," Denise said.
"Our own Billabong Park was (a project of) the council and Lions combined. We have our own Lions Park as well."
During her time with the club she has held the positions of membership chair, treasurer and president. She has also held positions in the District Cabinet of Zone chair, GMT coordinator, first and second vice district governor.
A welcome home luncheon was held at the CWA Hall in Gloucester to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Lions in Australia.
The celebration was attended by many clubs from around the Lions district, which extends from Gloucester down to Woy Woy and out to Dunedoo in the west.
At the event Denise spoke passionately about the Lions club ethics and code of helping those in need. Her vision for the district is "for clubs to be the best they can be".
"Denise will continue to serve her district with pride and respect, something she has always done for her Gloucester club," said Gloucester Lions Club president, Jeanette Mumford.

75th anniversary of Lions in Australia
To celebrate 75 years of Lions in Australia many Lions Clubs are planting gardens, however Gloucester decided to plant a liquid amber tree in our already established Lions gardens.
This was undertaken by Denise as one of her first official duties as District Governor prior to the welcome home luncheon.
Denise spoke passionately about the Lions Club ethics and code of helping those in need.
Her vision for District 201N3 is "for Clubs to be the best they can be".
Denise will continue to serve her District with pride and respect, something she has always done for her Gloucester Club.
