The year 11 student at Gloucester High started a work-based traineeship at Gloucester Preschool earlier this year and is having the time of her life.
The one-day per week traineeship allows Tegan to continue her school-based studies, as well as gain a Certificate III in child care through TAFE and earn at the same time.
“I did some work experience at the preschool last year just to see if I would like it and I absolutely loved it,” Tegan said.
“It’s worked out really well for me. I was just going to leave school but this way I get to complete my studies, plus I get a qualification out of it and I’m earning.”
Tegan said the interaction she enjoys with children at the preschool is particularly rewarding.
“I feel like I’m a big kid running around with all the younger ones,” she said.
Tegan said her dream was to work at a larger preschool or day care centre somewhere in the city once her traineeship and school was complete.
