A DYERS Crossing man who beat and choked a woman at a home in Copeland has been denied bail.
The 53-year-old has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault and breach of bail after attacking a 52-year-old woman in a domestic incident on May 22.
Police allege the accused, who was intoxicated, attacked the woman after she was unable to provide him with some cigarettes.
The victim was pinned to her bed, physically assaulted and choked by the accused before she eventually managed to escape and contacted police.
The woman was taken to Gloucester Soldiers Memorial Hospital with injuries including a bleeding lower lip, swelling to the left side of her face, red marks and scratches on her throat and neck.
She also required X-rays as there were concerns her jaw might be fractured.
At the time of the alleged offence, the accused was already on conditional bail for a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm on another person.
The accused remains in custody and will appear at the Gloucester Local Court on June 11.
Train passenger strips
A CROWS Nest man who stripped to his underwear before trying to open the exterior door of a moving passenger train has been fined $400.
The 37-year-old was arrested by police at the Gloucester train station on May 1 and taken to Taree Police Station where he was issued with a fine for interfering with the comfort and safety of passengers travelling on the XPT.
Egg-chucker fined
A BARRINGTON man has been fined $500 for throwing eggs at a house and car on bent St.
Police were called to Bent St about midnight on April 13 after reports of eggs being thrown at a home.
Following inquiries, police spoke with a 22-year-old Barrington man and issued him with an on the spot fine for offensive conduct.
Driving with expired licence
A GLOUCESTER woman will face court after she was caught driving with an expired licence.
Police spotted the 42-year-old driving north along Ravenshaw St about 11.15am on May 29.
Checks revealed the woman’s licence expired on March 29.
The woman will appear at Gloucester Local Court on June 11.
Fined after bike crash
A WALCHA man has been fined after crashing his motorbike into a barbed wire fence.
The 55-year-old was riding along Barrington West Rd about 1.30pm on May 24 when he lost control on a sweeping right-hand bend and crashed into a barbed wire fence.
The men suffered a broken arm and significant cuts to both arms in the accident.
He was issued with a $405 fine for negligent riding.
Teen arrested on outstanding warrants
A GLOUCESTER teenager will face court later this month after he was arrested on several outstanding warrants.
The 18-year-old is currently on conditional bail relating to offences committed in the Gloucester and Newcastle areas.
The teenager is required to reside at an address in Gloucester and must report to police every Monday, Wednesday and Friday as part of his bail conditions.
The youth failed to report to police on any of the required days during the week of May 21.
A warrant for the teenager’s arrest was issued and he was picked up by Newcastle Police on May 30 for breaching his bail.
He will appear in Gloucester Local Court on June 11 and Newcastle Court on June 16.
Driver hit kangaroo
POLICE expect to charge a Wallanbah man after he was injured when he collided with a kangaroo while driving late last month.
The 31-year-old was taken to hospital after the accident on Wallanbah Rd on May 23.
Police are awaiting the results of a blood test before charging the man.
Driving while suspended
A GLOUCESTER man will face court later this month for driving on a suspended licence.
The 21-year-old was stopped driving a Toyota Hilux utility on Denison St about 9.25pm on May 8 after checks revealed he was driving while suspended.
The accused told police he was aware his licence was suspended but claimed he paid the outstanding fines a month earlier.
The accused was unable to produce receipts for the fines he claimed he had paid and further checks revealed the man remains a suspended driver.
He will appear at Gloucester Local Court on June 11.
Low-range drink driving
A GLOUCESTER man will face court on a low-range drink driving charge after he was involved in a crash with a motorcyclist.
Police were called to a crash involving the 39-year-old’s vehicle and a motorcycle at Krambach on May 14.
The man later returned a low-range blood alcohol reading of 0.052.
He will face Gloucester Local Court on June 11.
Negligent driving
POLICE have fined a Gloucester man $405 for negligent driving.
The 21-year-old was stopped by police on Philip St after he was observed to accelerate harshly on several occasions and cause the wheels of his vehicle to spin.
- A GLOUCESTER teenager has been issued with a traffic infringement notice for negligent driving after crashing her car.
The 19-year-old lost control of her vehicle and ran off the road while driving near Wards River on April 28.
Failure to quit
A GLOUCESTER man has been fined $550 for refusing to leave a licensed premises.
The 21-year-old was removed from a local hotel on April 19 but remained nearby and became involved in an altercation with patrons.
He later attempted to re-enter the hotel.
Quad bike stolen from locked paddock
POLICE are seeking information after a quad-bike was stolen from a paddock on a property south of Gloucester.
On Sunday, May 18 a Gloucester local was towing a trailer along the Bucketts Way south when he suffered a flat tyre.
A 2004 Yamaha blue quad bike was being carried in the trailer and as the victim did not have a spare tyre with him he placed the trailer in the yard of a relative’s residence, just south of Gloucester.
The trailer with the quad bike was left in the yard near the main house.
Prior to leaving the property, the victim padlocked the front gates to prevent other people entering.
On the morning of Wednesday, May 21 the victim found the chain around the padlock had been cut and removed and the quad runner had been stolen.

Fined for parking in disabled zone
POLICE have fined a motorist $506 for parking in a disabled area without a permit.
Officers spotted the vehicle parked in a disabled area on King St on May 9. The vehicle’s owner was later issued with a fine.
- Gloucester Police have fined a driver $169 for disobeying a No Parking sign outside a local school.
The vehicle was observed to be parked and unattended in the No Parking zone outside the school on April 3.
