Council officers were still counting submissions this morning (Friday) after a late influx before the cut off of the exhibition period on Thursday (August 28) afternoon.
Council’s manager of Planning and Environment Graham Gardner said it was an unprecedented response to a development application.
“It’s a very significant number of responses, certainly locally,” he said.
The proposal to the primitive campsite on a property off Jacks Rd went on public exhibition on August 13.
The application by Groundswell Gloucester proposed a total of 104 campsites and a maximum of 12 people per site.
Groundswell said camper numbers were not expected to exceed 200.
But concerns have been raised over sanitation and antisocial behaviour at the campsite with neighbouring property owner Marilyn Schneider among those to speak out against the proposal.
Mr Gardner said those concerns would now be scrutinised by council officers before the proposal was brought back to councillors for a determination at the September 17 meeting.
“You do not need to be a resident or a ratepayer to make a submission. This is not a vote,” he said.
“The idea of the exhibition period is to make sure all issues and concerns are raised so they can be addressed in council’s assessment.”
