Organised by local artist Jean Buettel, the painters will visit locations from Copeland to Kia-Ora and Gloucester River to the Mograni.
The concept of Plein Air, which is a French expression meaning ‘in the open air’ and is particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors, is nothing new.
Jean has been involved in several Plein Air workshops, from places as varied as Mudgee and the Snowy Mountains, but she believes Gloucester can offer a unique experience for artists.
The artists will arrive in Gloucester on October 13 and will participate in activities including visits to the Copeland State Conservation Area, Barrington, Wellards Lane, Kia-Ora and Tugwood Wines as well as a series of barbecues.
“The great thing about Gloucester is that most of the really spectacular features are within close proximity to one another,” Mrs Buettel said.
“You don’t have to drive for hours to find a good place to sit and paint.”
The culmination of the week will see the main street of Gloucester closed for several hours on Saturday, October 18 from 9am to 1pm for an exhibition of all the paintings completed during the week.
“People will be able to view the paintings in an open air setting and purchase them,” Mrs Buettel said.
Mrs Buettel said, if the week was well supported by the Gloucester community, she planned to make it an annual event.
“Painting together outdoors is fun,” she said.
“You get 30 odd people standing in line painting the same scenery and they’ll all be totally different outcomes.”
