A mainstay of Rotary’s Bush Poetry at the Saleyards since its inception, North has not performed in Gloucester for the past two years.
The former national champion, who won the award three years running from 2008 to 2010, said the Gloucester event was one of the standout poetry gigs on his calendar.
“It’s a very unique venue,” he said.
“Every time I’ve performed in Gloucester there have been good crowds.”
A relative latecomer to the business, North first started taking an interest in poetry in 2003.
His quirky humour and love for entertaining quickly endeared him to audiences and North also has a wonderful gift for accents.
“I love the performance. That had a lot to do with why I started doing bush poetry in the first place,” he said.
North will be joined on stage by Bush Poetry at the Saleyards regulars Claire Reynolds, Gabby Colquhoun and Wyatt Hall at this year’s event.
“I’ll be bringing along a few acts Gloucester folk haven’t seen before as well as a few old favourites,” Greg said.
“The four of us will also be performing a poem together.
“One of the great things about bush poetry is that almost everyone can relate to it in some way. People often find they’re pleasantly surprised by how much they enjoyed the performance.”
Bush Poetry at the Saleyards is on Saturday, March 7.
Tickets are on sale now at Gloucester Health Foods, Bowe and Lidbury or the Visitor Information Centre.
