The Greens' candidate Drusi Megget expects a last-minute rush of voters before the polls close at 6pm.
Drusi Megget said it had been a very good day.
"Quite a few people, some I know, some I don't know, are saying good luck and taking The Greens' handout and nothing else," she said.
"It's quite different from when I first started handing out for The Greens here in the 1990s."
Ms Megget will attend a party tonight with supporters.
People responded nicely to the Christian Democratic Party (Fred Nile Group), the Port Macquarie candidate Ashley Prinable said.
Election day was busier than Mrs Prinable expected.
"It's amazing how many people were coming to vote today," she said. "I thought it was busy at pre-poll but this is staggering."
