The Gloucester High School Multicultural Festival celebrates its tenth anniversary from today until Monday. As with previous years, more than 20 students from Miller High School in Sydney, mostly refugees from Syria and Iraq, will visit Gloucester and stay with families. They will be bringing with them the highlight of this year’s festival – a play called Suitcase Stories, which was recently the subject of an ABC documentary ‘Cast from the Storm’.
“This festival has been an amazing experience for our students over the years, offering valuable educational opportunities and unique insights into the lives of young people who have had different life experiences to their own. The emotional bond that is built between our students and our visitors is truly phenomenal,” Gloucester High School’s festival organiser Scott Davis said.
This year’s Multicultural Festival will take place from Wednesday November 25th to Monday November 30th, a longer period than usual due to the extra activities celebrating the anniversary. The festival will include a MAD night, a performance of the Tree of Life play, a hike up the Barrington Tops, a multicultural food-fest, a dance and some other school activities. Even festival founder and former head maths teacher Kevin Costa will take a break from teaching duties at Molong Central School to play a role in the festivities.
For a night of powerful performances including Suitcase Stories, local music and drama students and a viewing of Cast from the Storm, head to Gloucester High School Hall on Friday November 27, 7pm. Tickets are $4 available at the door.
