Students installed their works at the gallery for the community to enjoy before they are marked by the Board of Studies for their Higher School Certificate (HSC) examination.
To mark the occasion, the gallery held a grand opening on Friday evening, August 11.
“We had a huge crowd at the opening last night, with over 50 people,” Gloucester High School art teacher, Chris Steele said.
“It was a packed house.”
He said this year there is quite a variety of media used by the students ranging from drawing, painting, digital photography, fibre art, sculpture to rotoscoping animation.
“They've been working on their body of work since term four last year.
“That's when they are allowed to commence developing their techniques and ideas toward their HSC exam,” he said.
Chris said the 11 candidates for Gloucester High School HSC visual arts have achieved quite a high standard in their skill and technique.
“The main aim of the construction of the artwork is to show depth in their idea and material practice. It’s this level of engagement that will result in a strong mark for these candidates.”
While not all 11 collections are on display at the gallery, the works that are hung there are very impressive.
Works on display are as follows:
- Maddie Eveleigh - Dedication to Van Gogh (Starry Night), Photomedia
- Hayley Johns - The Polynator, Collection of Works
- Olivia Chapman - Shoreline - Photomedia
- Leah Yarnold - Molecular Infinity - Photomedia
- Andy ChongSun - Sought after Light
- Isabelle Snowdon - HorsePower - Collection of Works
- Emerson Ross - Willow, Misty and the Camelia - Drawing
- Molly Hutchen - These People I Know - Drawing
- Lily Nixon - Divine Alterations - Painting
The students artworks will be marked externally by a team of markers from the Board of Studies after being on display in the gallery.
These works make up at part of their final grades which will be released in mid December.
The exhibition will be on until September 4 for anyone to drop in and enjoy these excellent works by our local students.
Opening hours of the Gloucester Gallery are Thursday, Friday, Saturday from 10am til 4pm and Sundays from 10am til 1pm.
