Our zone area is one of the largest in NSW and covers clubs from Gloucester, Forster/Tuncurry, up to Lismore and inland to Tamworth and Quirindi.
Our athletes performed exceptionally well with personal best times set over a range of events.
In the throw events, Nicholas Maslen threw a personal best of nearly two metres in both the shot put and discus.
Ryan Beggs jumped an extra 30 centimetres in the triple jump. Keely Yates threw a 40cm personal best (PB) in the shot put and a 2 metre PB in the javelin.
Harrison Clarke cracked the 6m mark in the Long Jump with a 6.05m jump.
Andrew Hughes nearly threw a 1m PB in the shot put and a 2m PB in the Javelin.
Xander Patteron jumped 70cm further than at club level in his triple jump and threw a 3m PB in Discus.
It was great to see so many of our kids stepping up to the next level at this competition. On the track our busiest athlete was Tahnee Yates, who competed in the 1500m run, the 3000m run, the 800m run and the 1500m walk finishing first in all these events and she still had the energy for a swim in the pool on Saturday evening.
Holly Anderson from Nabiac was amazing all weekend and broke the zone record in the 700m walk by over 2 seconds.
Unfortunately Holly finished second in the event, but it was a great achievement to break the old record. Well done Holly.
Liam Wamsley won a gold medal in the discus. Ty Vumbaca tried his little heart out to complete his medal collection but fell short with a commendable three silver and one bronze in his four events. These two athletes are unable to progress to the regional carnival as they compete in the under seven age group.
The top four athletes from each event now progress to the Regional Carnival that will be held in Lismore early next year, except for the under seven athletes.
Charlotte Maslen finished first in the shot put, javelin and discus. Little sister, Melody Maslen won her shot put event. Ruby Bradbury, Kaitlyn Beggs and Emily Beggs all had solid performances in the under 10 age group.
Jacob Vumbaca finished 3rd in the 70m sprint. Noah Charles got 2nd in the high jump and Connor Anderson had a great meet finishing first in the high jump and walk.
Nic Maslen secured 2nd spot in the discus and javelin, Ryan Beggs jumped his way to 3rd in the triple jump (and an “unofficial” 3rd in the long jump).
Kate Bradbury had tough competition in her age group and did amazing to place 4th in the hurdles and 100m races.
Sam Ashton finished 1st in the 800m and sister Emma placed 2nd in the same event in her age group but was able to cross the finish line in first in the 1500m walk.
Xander Patterson secured 2nd place in the high jump and long jump. Keely Yates’ PB in the javelin secured her 3rd position and in the senior age group Kieran Schneider placed first in the shot put and javelin, Harrison Clarke placed 1st in the long jump and Andrew Hughes won his 1500m run, 1500m walk and 800m run.
A great weekend was had by all the kids, parents and grandparents that attended. Our kids are so well behaved and were seen cheering on their fellow competitors from other clubs and are a pleasure to watch compete.
