With the first Blue Light disco about to kick off, the Gloucester committee has decided to introduce a loyalty card.
The idea from new committee member Mel Seale as a way of encouraging children to come along to the event.
The way it works; there will be four discos held in 2017 and each child will receive a stamp every time they enter. If they attend at least three discos, they will be entered into a raffle draw for a major prize. The cards will go into a barrel at the final dance, near the end of the year and the winner will be drawn on the night.
“We are looking a innovative ways to keep the children engaged,” committee secretary, Katheryn Smith said.
The first disco of the year will be held at the Gloucester Soldiers Club on Friday, February 24. The kindergarten to year two time is from 5:30pm until 7:00pm and years three to seven is from 7:30pm until 9:30pm.
This is the seventh year the Blue Light disco has run in Gloucester since being restarted by the new committee. Not only do they run the discos, but the committee also run school holiday activities, things like; ice skating, sandboarding, trips to Wet N Wild and football matches.
Blue Light was started by the NSW police as a drug and alcohol free event for young people.
“It was to break down the barriers between the police and the youth in the community,” committee president, Scott Chester said.
Scott explained how it was an opportunity for youth to get to know police outside of the uniform and provide a safe environment. The events are now overseen by the Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) and are more about the community as a whole.
