Voters will head to the polls on Saturday, September 9, to elect the group of councillors who they believe will best represent the MidCoast for the first time since the merger.
But residents will first need to make sure they are enrolled to vote.
If you live in the MidCoast Council local government area and want to check your enrolment details, or to obtain an enrolment form, visitwww.elections.nsw.gov.au or phone 1300 135 736. Resident enrolment forms are also available at any Australia Post Office.
And importantly, if you know someone who owns a property in the area, but doesn’t live here, help MidCoast Council spread the word that they may also be eligible to vote on the non-residential roll.
The non-residential roll applies to property owners, rate paying lessees and occupiers of rateable land within the MidCoast Council local government area where the property is not their primary residence. For example, you may own a holiday home in the area, or operate a business from a rented premises where rates are payable.
If this applies to you, you (or a nominee) may be entitled to enrol to vote in the upcoming election. If you want to be included on the non-residential roll you must complete an application form which is available at www.midcoast.nsw.gov.au/Election.
Applications for inclusion on the Non Residential Roll close at 6pm on Monday, July 31, 2017.
If you’re considering standing as a candidate, you have one last chance to attend a councillor candidate information session in Forster, Tuesday June 27, 5.30 to 7pm and Taree, Thursday, June 29 noon to 2pm.
