Inspector Andrew Brown said Gloucester and Great Lakes residents were invited to attend an information session next month to learn about the new brigade.
“We’re not only looking for new volunteer firefighters, but for people to fill many other roles including members for our new Communications Brigade, logistics, catering, planning and aviation support,” he said.
“Being a volunteer with the NSW RFS is very rewarding and I encourage all residents to join with us in protecting Gloucester and the Great Lakes.
“NSW RFS members share a strong bond and camaraderie, and are proud to be part of an internationally renowned organisation which protects the community in times of need.”
Inspector Brown said one of the main attractions of the NSW RFS was the ability to give something back to the community.
“Becoming a volunteer with the NSW RFS is simple and we provide all the training that is required to complete the role you wish to do,” he said.
“While we are looking for volunteers for every one of our brigades we are desperately in need of community-minded locals to join the newly formed Communications Brigade at Gloucester.
“This brigade is a vital service to the front line firefighters and serves a pivotal role in what we do.”
An information session will be held at 7pm on April 30 at the Fire Control Centre on Lowe St.
No prior experience is needed.
Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer is asked to contact the Gloucester Fire Control Centre on 6558 8800 or Great Lakes on 6539 7700.
