Council’s director of technical services Gil Gendron said the closure was necessary to carry out the urgent repair works.
“The section on the Faulkland side of the crossing is really potholed,” he said.
“It was difficult to see the damage with the water flowing but since the weather’s been drier it’s very noticeable.”
Mr Gendron said the dry weather presented the perfect opportunity to complete the work promptly and with minimum disruptions.
“We’ll probably use some sandbagging to keep the water away from the areas we’re targeting,” he said.
Mr Gendron said Rocky Crossing was the busiest of the 99 causeways in the Gloucester Shire and was also one of the best maintained.
“We repaired another section about 12 months ago in the middle,” he said.
“The crossing was built in 1950 and the last major works we did there were in 2001.”
